It’s been a while I have not written about the changes in our social environment. Excitements of new dynamic changes and possibilities have been twisting too fast lesser time to punch on the keyboard. When we look from a distance we see envisions of perspectives getting connected to one and other. Soon we are to see a debate of why people have to vote for them by the Presidential Candidates. Most of the details are very clear but the puzzle is yet to be solved.
We the common man on the street now thinks with the experiences to finalize who is who. The beauty of a bottom up process is that everyone having a say to decide the majority. What do we want? How do we want it? The social leaders are the people who need to be convinced that you have a need. The leaders within our small communities have to decide what is good for the people. The culture of passing the message to the government was taking their problems to “Katheeb’s”. It was not so long ago we had them, now we are living in the generation of councilors.
This important change in dynamics converted a paradigm of how people express their needs. Along came party contestants. What we did not see coming was the competition of old “katheeb” and the new councilors. The “Katheebs” was very much in the position to influence people in the community, while the newly elected councilors had a limited knowledge in managing the people. This is the known reason why DRP won more council seats than any other party. We see the same patterns in progression when PPM was formed. To the reformists at MDP and other parties it was a surprise that President Maumoon has close accessibility to people.
Today we can see those seats are being moving towards PPM as well new seats have been won by PPM. It’s not only President Maumoon who has the accessibility as well President Dr. Waheed has the administrative directives as well personal touch with the councilors. This can be seen on his official and unofficial trips to the islands. It may have either been an understanding for the alliance of PPM and the participation of DRP in President Waheeds campaign team.
Councilors are the closest administrative reach that any political or otherwise an organization can reach. This is how people have been communicating for a long history. This is what President Nasheed shouts as the old system. It is reality to understand Hon. Gasim and President Nasheed does not have a leading manipulation over the loyal councilors of President Maumoon. This is the reason PPM has support and is leading the socio-political environment.
